Cute little picture book in which a white dog with black spots who does not want a bath escapes for some very dirty adventures that result in him looking like a black dog with white spots. He's so dirty that his family doesn't recognize him! Finally, he brings them a scrub brush for a proper bath, they realize he's their dog, and they're all happily together again.

The book's a little dated--kids aren't going to know what a coal chute is and we don't have coal dust-spewing trains anymore. Still, a few props to the author for having a white dog with black spots becoming a black dog with white spots; it doesn't totally avoid the association of black with dirt and wrong, and white with clean and right, but at least it's not a total black-and-white situation (pun totally intended).

Just fun with great illustrations.

This was a pretty lovable kids classic about a dog who gets so filthy his family doesn't recognize him anymore. Ideally, it's an age 5 and under read.

I loved this book! I thought it was adorable!

This is a very popular repeat request at story time in my classroom!

Just had Betty White (from "The Golden Girls" fame) read me this cute little story via the medium of YouTube.
The book raises the important issue around identity/being accepted for who you are truly. Plus, the illustrations are adorable and so well done. This would make a great quick and easy book to read to a child at bedtime.

Sweet picture book. Harry learns bath time isn't all that bad. Would I use it for Storytime? I'm on the fence. It just looks too long for my group.
