Like in "The Priory of the Orange Tree" the characters are amazingly written and convince with their realness. All of their backstories and current lore is so tragic and heartbreaking and I felt with every single one of them. A thing I also really appreciate is the diversity of ethnicities, religions and sexuality, the author clearly took a lot of time to develop every aspect of this world and its people. The storyline was interesting as well and although the pacing was rather slow from time to time I was intrigued how the story was gonna continue.

I loved all of the characters in this book, and especially all of the strong female characters. Tunuva's point of view was so refreshing, as it's so rare for an older woman's perspective to be included in fantasy! I also really appreciated that so many of the characters were lgbtqia+.
