I am not sure what I was expecting going into this one, but I will say, I really ended up enjoying it! I don't think I"d consider it horror by any means, but definitely a good thriller. The story kept me interested and I never once considered stopping. Gio was an interesting character, from the "spoiled" girl we first meet, to the meek version entering prison, to the badass she became. I like reading about her transformation, and enjoyed how the story ended.

Really good mystery/thriller! The twists were good and didn't come out of nowhere. Like, all the clues were there if I just thought about it a minute, but it was so well written I didn't pause.

The protagonist was intriguing but also her decisions, or lack of them, remained unfathomable. Though "16 and all the stupid that comes with that" does explain a lot in itself lol. I wonder if her back story is written with benign neglect. Her father obviously loves her deeply, but he's also written as hands-off and absent a lot on night shifts.

However, I do have a bone to pick with the "born bad" trope. As its final iteration in the story, it has a lot of nurture elements to balance it out and make it believable. But when it's it was introduced as foreshadowing via a two year old, I rolled my eyes.

The prison storyline was kind of fun! Even though all it did was give a logical route for a felon to get a gun and a mother figure. We don't see Geo grow or change in this period.

The addition of the mother figure went nowhere. In a story, a momentous event like this is supposed to result in some change to the character. I can't pinpoint how it changed Geo's behavior or her internal feelings and perceptions.

We'll see if it's memorable.
