Vera's story was cute and heartfelt, showing her finding the place she fits and that she's happy with. Super sweet story.

This book was such an emotional rollercoaster. The main character, Vera was very human throughout this book. She made alot of good and bad choices. I liked that Vera never gave up and continued to find her way in camp. She made the best of a rough situation and became a better person for it. The title, Be Prepared is apt for this book. 5\5

Vera shares about her summer camp in a style that flows as smoothly as fiction. She opens up about feeling Other because of her Russian family and customs, and because her family was low-income and couldn't do things quite the same way as her more wealthy friends. The sleepover scene was heartbreaking. It was fun watching her learn and grow at camp.

What a joyous read! I tend to gravitate to books about camp for some reason, and this one made me love the subject matter even more. The author’s story was told so effectively through graphic novelization, which is always a plus for me when I see that as the best medium for a story. I can see myself revisiting this one.

This graphic memoir was pretty heartbreaking - teens are so cruel to each other! I liked the illustrations.

It was a fun book about going to summer camp and coming of age. It was nothing groundbreaking in subject matter but the animation was fun and fit the storytelling well. It reminds me if what a little geek I was as a child. If you want a fun, goofy read with a throw back to your awkward days look no further!

Based on the author's own experiences of summer camp as a child, Be Prepared tells the story of Vera - girl who just wants to fit in.

Finding herself alienated from her friends due to her Russian heritage and having a single mother struggling to make ends meet, Vera convinces her mum to send herself and little brother to Camp Orr, where everyone is Russian. All her friends go to summer camp and make it sound amazing.

But at Camp Orra Vera continues to struggle to find her 'tribe' and finds that camp life is not all she thought it would be.

Beautifully drawn, this graphic novel so graphically (See what I did there 🤣) portrays the struggle to fit in and find yourself.

Versa finds that it is only when she stops trying to make herself what she thinks others want her to be, and is true to herself, that she finds where she fits in.
