Re-read this as I got put in a slump by Percy Jackson (who would've thought, eh? -_- )
I hadn't read this since the release in 2007, so I was also refreshing my mind.
I love Meg Cabot.
Her writing is just amazing.
She always writes interesting stories that - like with me as an example - help to get you out of reading slumps.
Jinx was an awesome character in this. Prob one of my faves now. She's just so genuine.
Definitely worth the read if you love your cute fluffy reads =)

Typical Cabot. Fast read. Some connections to bullying and other "mean girls" tactics.

I really tried to finish this, but I couldn't. This book is full of annoying characters and cliché plots and by the end I just couldn't take it anymore.

This book did have its amusing points though. It was entertaining at times, but not enough to finish it.

I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read it a few years ago. It just seemed extremely juvenile (and if I find a book juvenile, that's really saying something.)

Anyway, I would not recommend this book.

I listened to the audio version. The plot is imaginative yet really relateable in some places. Jinx is a character that I think a lot of teenage girls can identify with. She experiences a deep crush, a bully, peer pressure, and other situations teens may be familiar with. Yet this book has a hint of the supernatural in it which really makes the story fun. The audio version is great even though the narrator's voice turned a little too Daria-like for me. She made Jinx sound really sardonic in places.

Bad luck and misfortune follow Jinx wherever she goes. She moves to NYC to get away from a dangerous situation as home only to find herself in another dangerous situation.

I admit when I read the synopsis for this book I didn't think witches - I was expecting more of a thriller or something along those lines so I was a tad disappointed. Tory was an absolute bitch throughout this entire book and Jinx was so incredible naive it drove me INSANE (I know that was supposed to be a part of her character but it went a bit too far at some points) All I wanted to do was shove Tory into a mental institution and slap Jinx for being so BLIND. Only an incredibly gullible person would believe Tory's personality changed at the drop of a hat because she FELT BAD. The only saving grace with that entire scenario was Zach saying JUST THAT and staying suspicious. Still, I felt a lot of the situations they ended up in could have been avoided in Jinx wasn't so gullible all the time.

I enjoyed the book as a whole but since I was aggravated during most of the story I had to give it 3 stars.

Another hit from Meg Cabot. High school sophomore Jean "Jinx" Honeychurch moves in with her relatives in New York City after trouble in her hometown of Hancock, Iowa. Everyone is happy to see her, including the cute boy next door. The only person unhappy is her cousin Tory, who is mad that Jean won't join her coven. Teens and 'tweens will enjoy this book, and this adult thought it was a good way to spend a summer afternoon.

Loveable characters: Complicated

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I enjoyed reading this, but there was so much that I just… don't like. So I am a bit infuriated that I now dislike a book that was really fun to read. But. Yeah.

Jinx was just a so-so book that didn't have a whole lot of anything. There was a little witchcraft, a little romance, some rivalry, but it never felt like enough to be complete. This wasn't a bad book, and it was definately a quick read, but not one of my favorites in the "supernatural" genre.

One of Meg Cabot's more supernatural books, it still had the romantic elements but wasn't as comedic as her books tend to be. Still cute but not one of my favorites.

I have no recollection as to when I read this. More than 5 years, I think. Haha, anyways. I think I remember liking this. A light, single, read.
