Ugh I wanted to love this book, but I felt like it was so meandering and hard to follow. Creativity without direction. Had interesting points and the main character felt very relatable, especially if you are familiar with corporate work. But it kinda turned after those initial thoughts.

I was into the book for a good chunk of it, but by the end, I was counting down until I finished. Maybe I'm just more a fan of the getting the team together stories instead of ones where the team becomes separated, every teammate has to do their own journey, all of the team has to get back together again, etc.
"Postfurry" is a subdivision of the broader furry culture, intersecting with themes of weird fiction, transhumanity, and identity exploration. Postfurry tends to be very interested in questions of what is human, what is self, what is connection between selves.
This is possibly the most postfurry book I’ve read since I became aware of the term over 15 years ago, and not just because one of the main characters is a badass feline space pirate. The characters are mostly female, mostly queer, and also effortlessly nonhuman, wonderfully strange, and relatable in ways you might sometimes wish they weren't. They include a the aforementioned gleefully vicious pirate, a starpilot who longs to lose herself in the group consciousness of a battle fleet, and a gray goo war machine who just wants to be a good kid.
The story is almost overwhelming with the number of action setpieces and strange settings it runs through, but it's all in service of exploring these folks and their connections, building to a set of resolutions that I'd hate to spoil, if only because of how simultaneously validating and thought-provoking they were, at least to this critter who's trying to work out how to be my weird self in connection with a bunch of other weird selves. This book gets my highest recommendation.
