This was a lot of fun. I enjoyed most the relationships and all the wild shenanigans and aliens; half the time I hadn't a clue what was going on except that there was a lot of fighting, but it kept me reading. I confess that I found the second half of it dragged a bit - it seemed to go on and on... um, forever, but I was sufficiently invested in the characters to want to keep going.
Empress of Time is Gladstone's take on a classic space opera, which falls into pitfalls so prevalent I'm starting to believe they're intrinsic to the genre. Max does fit a lot of flavor into the framework, & does a pretty good job of justifying why an unknowable alien space world would be so knowable to a human. Some fun ideas! A good contribution to space opera everywhere

This book was complex and simple and sad and beautiful. It’s about reaching deep down into yourself and truly knowing who you are and what you can do.
It’s about finding new friends, family, loss and regret. So wonderful and really well written.

I almost feel bad giving this two stars, as I barely got into the book. I had been looking forward to this book for several weeks. However, I was finding it difficult to get into this story thanks to the writing style, which I found bombastic, and overstuffed.
Satisfying space opera. Fun worlds. Excited that it’s complete in one book.
