I really enjoyed this book. It would be 5 star if not for one thing- the ignorant comments about borderline personality disorder. I was deeply offended when one of the characters (a psychiatrist) basically said “don’t bother trying to help or treat her, she’s borderline. She can’t be helped, it’s a waste of time.” The other doctor he was speaking with didn’t correct his assertion but only denied the patient was borderline at all. To me this leaves a false, ignorant idea about borderlines for the general public. As someone who has been in recovery and had no symptoms of borderline for years with intensive therapy, this hurt me. There are enough misconceptions out there about us already.

Greek tragedy here that I thought was a slow approach to its take off. The anti heroine was brought to life by the author by her gestures of dealing with life and not by her voice. Actually her voice was found in therapy sessions. This is not your typical whodunit story yet it’s complex nature layers on like a good cake.

Actually quite an enthralling read for almost 2/3rds. Aside from a few quirks and repetitiveness that should have been edited away, this is a decent first book. I am disappointed with the gushing big name blurbs though - I don't think this book on par with those I've read by them, so that's rather disingenuous. I did consider the authorial storytelling choice of interest, it is not one employed, or at least read, often by myself. I thought our protagonists mostly written with a deft hand, and the denouement in this instance surpasses the climax, which is oddly rather stumble-rushed through in a dissatisfying manner, my largest complaint. After all the strategic work to guide us toward his goal, the author suddenly bum-rushes us between the uprights and blows the ending whistle, leaving us cheering the score whilst shaking our heads wondering how we got here. Overall a decent storytelling, just not quite worth heavily recommending.

Ending was anti climatic. I kind of expected more from the outcome of the main characters but also happy with the outcome? It's complicated unless you've read it but I enjoyed the twists and trying to figure it all out. The pacing was fantastic.

How everything tied together in the end was interesting.

This was incredible, I finished it in a day. I love books that have you analyzing every single thing about a situation in order to understand the characters.
Being told that Alicia killed her husband in the beginning and then finding out through reading how it all came to be was such an interesting approach.
