What is the ol’ saying? Save a horse, ride a cowboy?

Yup, that definitely fits.

Cal is one sexy man, and one I wouldn’t mind saving a horse for. From the beginning I knew he was going to be a different type of hero. Most guys try to fight their attraction to the heroine tooth and nail, or try to justify it in some way, hell even deny it. Not Cal. The moment he sees Lauren, he’s attracted to her. He doesn’t pull any of the usual crap. Instead, he tries to go right in for the kill. It doesn’t hurt that Lauren is definitely into him as well. It’s hard for her to focus on her mission with such a mouthwatering cowboy who insists on distracting her. She just wants to save a woman’s life, but Cal and his ranch are too interesting to push aside.

I thought Cal was a great hero in this story. Despite his ranch beginning to fail, he just wanted what was best for everyone, but it seemed like everything just wanted to work against him. His ex-wife shows up and Lauren arrives to save a woman from being murdered. Throw in a young man in lust with Cal’s ex-wife, and a greedy businessman, and you have chaos waiting to happen. Despite all the problems that came Cal’s way, he dealt with them very well. He took them one at a time and tried to think them out. He was very strong and had good values, always trying to be the best he could. I really started to feel for him when his ranch started falling to pieces. It was clear he loved his ranch and its workers. But he had his flaws too. I saw a lot of anger and resentment in his, and from his past I can understand why. Sometimes it felt like it consumed him, and that made him seem all the more real. He started out seeming too good to be true, like he was created to be perfect. But when his flaws started to kick in and show themselves, he became just like anyone else, and that made me care about him more.

Lauren was a strong, yet fragile character. Because of her psychic ability, she has had a lot of issues in her life from her family being alienated, to losing her fiancée. However her latest vision she can’t ignore. This time, she’s going to save the victim’s life, which leads her to Cal’s ranch. She never expects to meet a man like Cal, and she is quickly drawn to him. At first, it’s just a fling, something to enjoy and pass the time. But she starts seeing Cal for who he really is; see behind his flaws and his barriers. She understood him in a way nobody ever has. That didn’t stop her from hiding parts of herself from him. She didn’t want to relive the pain of the past, but at the same time she couldn’t help falling for him. So she did the only thing she knew how to do for so long, hide. Everything else they faced together, she was there to help and support him. She fought for him, for his ranch. She maneuvered her way into his life. But when it came right down to how she felt, she hid. She may have been scared, but she was determined, and that made her strong.

One aspect of this book I really like was the intricacies of the relationships between the characters. In a lot of novels, if there are too many different relationships between all the characters, then everything gets muddled and hard to follow. It ends up taking away from the enjoyment of the story. However, in this one they were well enough explained, and done so over time, that I understood them all. I knew how everyone connected to each other and understood why. It made things a little more tense, and added that extra aspect that made the story better.

Cal and Lauren’s relationship was very sweet. As I said before, instead of beating around the bush, they knew they were attracted to each other and they went for it. Instead of resisting the pull, they gave in and started an intense but sweet relationship. In the beginning, like most novels, they were only looking for a casual thing, something to enjoy while they each do their own things. But, like all romance novels, it developed into something deep and more meaningful. This development scared Cal, he spent a lot of the novel trying to figure out why he was feeling this way and that about Lauren. Lauren spent it trying to protect herself from getting hurt, even when she realized that she was in love with him. They both had been damaged, and they both learned to accept and heal each other. It was a sweet joining, of then learning and understanding how the other felt. I wish it had gotten a little hotter as their relationship developed, but it did not hinder the story in any way. It fit them. That’s what matters.

Now I just need to go out and find a cowboy of my own. Yum.

Loved it

Absolutely loved this book and the characters. There is so much depth to this plot. With murder mystery, romance, steam and more. With a great HEA ending.

Lauren has physic visions of people being murdered, and for years she hasn't been able to do anything about it. Reading about the murder in the papers. This time she is going to save the women she sees strangled.

It leads her to a dude ranch, a struggling rancher has set up cabins to make income on the side. A hot cowboy rancher, Cal, who rides bulls and has a whole bunch of emotional scars. This story is not so much about the visions, and more about the blossoming love between Cal and Lauren.

I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more by Norah Wilson

This was the second book I've read by [a:Norah Wilson|1361508|Norah Wilson|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1303841707p2/1361508.jpg] in less than two weeks. As with [b:Fatal Hearts|21468410|Fatal Hearts|Norah Wilson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1402399686s/21468410.jpg|40786215], I identified with both the hero and heroine. Romantic suspense is my favorite genre and Every Breath She Takes was an excellent representation of that genre. The writing was articulate, the plot was gripping, and the chemistry between Cal and Lauren was satisfyingly undeniable.

Oh, and the fact that horses played a part in the story sure didn't hurt either.

A psychic heroine who has visions of murder being committed.

An ex-rodeo champion who is fighting to save his ranch.

And a whole can of emotional worms.

Every Breath She Takes by Norah Wilson was everything I expected to be and more, the romance had enough spark, the heroine was no damsel in distress and the hero was no macho alpha male ready to take on the world. In fact, the murder waiting to happen kind of takes a backseat with all the other issues that take place at Foothills Guest ranch like the debt issues of Cal’s ex-wife, the arrival of Cal’s estranged father, and the insidious sabotage of his guest ranch business. I loved how the author has consistently maintained the characterization of Lauren whose primary objective is to prevent the murder she sees in her visions. Cal’s emotional instability and his lack of confidence add the necessary anguish and sweetness to the romance between Lauren and Cal.

There’s not much surprise in the unveiling of the murderer but there are enough twists and turns in the story that made it a quick and fast-paced read. A well-written novel in the romantic suspense genre with equal amounts of romance and suspense, I would be happy to check out more books by this author.

This was an enjoyable paranormal romantic suspense novel. Lauren Townsend has had visions since she was a child. Her family suffered because of this and discouraged her talent. After avoiding dealing with it, she decides to take action regarding her newest vision by preventing the murder she has seen. She ends up on Cal Taggart's ranch. Cal Taggart is a wonderfully interesting and damaged character. He is running a dude ranch as a sideline to his ranch so he can make enough money to keep the ranch going. Lauren and Cal become involved but shes afraid to tell him about her visions. The conclusion is satisfying. Overall, a good read.

It can be thought of as a gift or a curse. Lauren has visions of murders, and she has them before the murder happens, and they are from the murder’s perspective. This book opens with Lauren working at her veterinarian practice feeling the tell-tale signs of a vision coming. In this vision she sees a man’s gloved hands strangling a woman. It is not the first time she has had this vision and as her body is revolting at the sight she forces herself to pick out some details that will help her pinpoint where this crime will take place. She is able to catch a glimpse of a matchbook and take note of the scenery before she collapses. Armed with that information she makes arrangements for her practice to be covered, boards her dogs, buys a plane ticket and makes reservations at the Foothills guest ranch.

One of the first people she meets is Cal, the owner of the Foothills guest ranch. Cal is a former rodeo star who is trying desperately to ride out the bucking economy by turning his ranch into a place tourists can come and learn how to be a cowboy. It is not his first choice, but he feels it is the only way he can keep his ranch going. Due to past experience Lauren is leery of letting anyone know about her visions, but she feels an instant attraction to Cal, and tells the first of a few “tales” to get him to keep talking to her.

I loved the imagery and setting of this book. I have never been to Alberta Canada but if it is half as beautiful as Norah Wilson made it sound I definitely want to visit. And if there is a real Foothills guest ranch I would love to go there. A great setting is wonderful but it is the characters and plot that is the reason we read! Each character has a purpose, and their dialogue is very true to their character. Plots are plenty in this book, but nothing too farfetched and they all get nicely wrapped up at the end. I enjoyed Lauren and Cal’s emotional arc, and appreciated that this story happened over weeks, which aided in its plausibility. The conclusion was heartwarming, but as a true sign of a good book I wanted a little bit more – maybe an epilogue – however I can hope that this is the start of a new series and we get to visit with this wonderful setting and these engaging characters again. A very good read and I plan on this being the first of many Norah Wilson books I read.

I received this ARC from the author for my honest review.
