Fantastic, fantastic read. It is extremely funny without glorifying the drug use, which some authors have a tendency to do. James St. James writes an honest account of life in the limelight and all the good and bad that came with it, definitely worth your time!
Graphic: Addiction, Drug abuse, Drug use, Blood, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Racial slurs, Racism
Minor: Ableism, Homophobia

Outrageous! I couldn't put this book down. Witty, funny, at times touching, disturbing. I have been fascinated with Alig and his lot for years, since seeing them on Donahue or Geraldo in the early 80's. I love Jame's style, will have to try his fiction novel now!
The best part of this book is absolutely James St. James' storytelling. Although it's the story of a murder, we know who is killed and by whom at the very beginning of the book. Rather than a murder mystery this is a story of New York club kids, which I found enormously entertaining.
Parts of the story dragged a bit for me, particularly the details of the main group, the dynamics and habits of each of the members, and what happened to them over time. Not that these details weren't interesting, but I don't think I cared about them as much as I wanted to know more about the murder since I knew that's in part what the book was all about.
Again, the narrative was the strongest part of this book. Hearing the story from a queer person with lived experience in that scene made the experience not only valuable but enjoyable.

The beginning had me hooked. But unless you’re on special K like the writer you may find yourself lost and not really understanding the point of some of the writing. Lots of babbling on and side stories that were fun at first but then got annoying.
