It's a really good story and amazing take on the Wizard of Oz, the writing style does use a lot of words that you sometimes need to push through, but it's worth it for the story.

If you love twisted fairytales this one’s for you. I enjoyed the idea of this book even if the writing was basic. I understood who Amy’s character was supposed to be, and enjoyed the fact that she didn’t immediately gain an obsessive love interest.

I wasn't sure about this book at first, but it definitely picked up along the way. I loved the twist on a famous story. It's definitely a dark retelling with a fair share of gore and mild torture, so beware. I'm so intrigued by where this series is headed and will for sure be moving on to the next installment soon. I do want to note that there is a bit of cussing and gore, so I don't plan on recommending this to just any YA reader.

As far as retellings go, I’m more inclined to call this a spin-off as it starts well after the Wizard of Oz story we know. But it is well done.

Paige was able to take everything we know about the story and flip it on its heads. While making the story arc of the main character Amy resemble what Dorothy did.

The world was well built and you truly hate the Dorothy Dorothy has become. But I still found most of the characters flat. They had motivations and realistic traits, I just didn’t seem to care about them. Like my favorite character was Star the rat.

I will say the ending is explosive and I will be continuing the series.
