I wanted to like this book because I had enjoyed the prequel novella but this just did not do it for me. When Amy was in the human world I didn’t like it. Her mother was horrible, she literally left Amy during a tornado to go to the bar. And her mean girl nemesis was such a hypocrite. I was hoping once she got to Oz it would get better but it didn’t. I was ready to see Dorothy be a villain but really all she did was punish anyone who said bad things about her.

I really loved this book, maybe it's because I've always loved Oz as a place but hated Dorothy as a character and don't even get me started on Toto. The writing is clever, sarcastic and funny and all together this book was a really good read, loved the character development and Amy's backstory. Can't wait for the sequel.

This book is incredible!! At first, it was rather hard to get in to and I wasn't sure if I like it, but by half way through I was in love. Definitely recommending this to everyone! ❤️

Definitely more enjoyable than expected. A quick read that twists the Oz story. It was a bit repetitive at times and I found myself frustrated with the lack of awareness the main character has due to those around her. So much would be different if people talked to her. This may raise some questions about the perceptions of good and evil. I'll definitely be picking up the sequel.

This book just didn't totally come together for me. I read all of the Oz books when I was a kid so I was excited to read a dark contemporary story set in Oz. But the pacing felt off and the action seemed sort of jumpy. The heroine keeps getting shifted from one place to another without a lot of control over her fate or understanding of what's going on, which ended up making me feel jerked around as a reader. I also didn't realize that this is the first book in a series, so the action ends completely in media res which just annoyed me. I have very different expectations going in if I know the book is the start of a series so I felt that should have been more clear on the cover.

This book frustrated me. The concept was great and I was excited to read it, but I ended up feeling annoyed the whole time. Relationships were barely formulated, characters seem massively important and then just go away, and questions are intentionally left unanswered for the entire book. The last ten pages attempt to answer some of those questions but don't actually do the job. I'm disappointed. Hopefully if the CW does turn this into a show, they do a better job.

Ughhhh. Now I have to wait for the 2nd and 3rd book. I liked the book and the writing, but it was a little confusing for me in some places. I think the next couple of books will hopefully answer quite a few of my questions.
