The writing was initially alluring. 25% in though, it felt repetitive and deadly annoying. I wasn’t getting to know any character, I wasn’t getting into the plot, I wasn’t enjoying the pace. It was a lot of introspective writing, sounded a lot more like a philosopher contemplating certain academic research than a proper story meant for casual readers. I wasn’t a fan.

Beautiful. Not the book you expect perhaps based on the blurb, but the journey was glorious and frankly, exactly what I needed.

Hazel shows real talent in her character building and prose here. I'm also really impressed with how how she builds tension and writes horror.

This novel is remarkable. Hayes' prose sings as the themes she deftly weaves together feel like they speak to the core of human experience. Every detail, down to the chapter titles, matters. The novel is a testament to the craft of writing, and the joy of creating art out of misery. The journey through Kate's subconscious changed me for the better.

A third of the way in and the only plot points I've gotten is 1) you're on a break and 2) you're dealing with the grief from your mother's death. Both of these could be great plot points if executed well, but sadly they weren't. Very disappointed as much like other readers, I adored Out of Love so had high hopes, but sadly this is a DNF for me.

I wanted to love this. The writing is beautiful but the plot is repetitive and overly convenient.
