All the feelings and logistics that follow the end of a long-term relationship are perfectly encapsulated in this novel.

One of my favorite quotes is: “The woman I was with Finn feels like an old acquaintance—someone I still think about from time to time, still care about and wish the best for, but no longer want to see.”

The last half of the book focuses more on Kate’s mother and the realizations that Kate has about her mom’s life & circumstances surrounding her death. I went into this book expecting to cry over a sad breakup but it was the mom/daughter plot that got me

Memorable Quotes:
---
Immortality was never on the table; this is all returning to dust eventually. But if there's even a chance that I'll have one more good day. A day when the words do come. When they spill from me like so many kept secrets bursting to be known. If there's any hope at all of a day like that. I'll keep going.
I don't know how to not.
---
This is why the cloak of grief hangs so heavy; it's not one cloak, but two. And on days when I can hardly move under the weight of it, I remind myself that grief and love are intricately woven together, and healing isn't about shedding one or the other, it's about becoming strong enough to bear them both.

to this day out of love by hazel hayes is one of my favorite books so going into this i definitely had some high expectations and honestly it didn’t disappoint. after about 70 pages i went back and started annotating because simply tabbing was not enough. the emotion throughout this book is insane. hayes has such a way with words. some of the quotes in this book will truly be stuck with me forever. while i couldn’t wholeheartedly relate to the main topic in this book, there were so many other small things throughout this book that made me feel SO seen and made me so incredibly emotional. this novel is written in second pov which i really enjoyed as well. i personally don’t think ive ever read a book in second pov so this was a first for me. it added something to the book that really just helped tie the whole story together. my only reasoning for not giving this book a 5 stars was that there were a few points during the book where i lost interest. and that has nothing to do with hayes’ writing, it’s just that i personally felt like a few parts dragged on too long. i will write anything hayes writes. she never fails to amaze me. i need her next novel immediately!!!!!!
