I thought this was great - seeing the Earth Empire again, new technology, flashbacks to the ATLA storyline, seeing some familiar faces again. I had a good time.

i think this was my favorite of the lot

The art style in this one was great; I really love it!

Other than that, I am a little bitter they didn't lean into the brainwashing aspect of this story more. It could have been really revealing to see the dynamics between Team Avatar in a situation like that. (Similar to when Peeta was brainwashed by the Capitol in Mockingbird and turned on Katniss due to his altered perception of her.) So things just fell a little flat for me, considering that the narrative remained pretty basic and predictable throughout the story, especially when it comes to Kuvira's redemption arc.

Overall, it felt more like a waste of a great premise that wasn't explored thoroughly enough.

Another great extension of the series. I loved seeing more of Kuvira and learning about her backstory. I hope they continue to expand on LOK and only wish they could turn these comics into new books for the animated series.

I LOVE THIS BOOK
*Spoilers for TLOK and the TLOK comics*

You know that meme where it's like ____ is something that can be so personal, and it's Antoni from Queer Eye? That's exactly how I feel about Ruins of the Empire Library Edition.

This was really good. I love the art style and Kuvira is one of my top favorite characters from TLOK so it was nice to see her. And her getting a redemption arc! I love redemption arcs.

This book answered all the questions I had with all the stuff they didn't address in Turf Wars, so thank god for that!

I don't think Kuvira was necessarily wrong for pleading not guilty in the beginning of the book bc she fucking cleaned up the entire Earth Kingdom. I don't think she planned for it to go as far as it did but considering her past trauma, it's not hard to see how it went as far as it did.

The scene where all the characters are in the steam bath and discussing what to do about Guan and they start listing off all the things Kuvira had done made me laugh out loud. Cause all the characters are listing off all the things Kuvira has done and they're all pretty bad, but Wu goes last and he says "And let's not forget how she ruined my coronation!" And there's just a panel of all the characters staring at him in silence. It was so funny and it was definitely in character for him to do that.

I think this book should have addressed the problems between Su and Kuvira more. Personally, I think that Kuvira was never really treated as a member of the family. I think when she was younger she might have been involved with the family but I think she was left to her own devices as she got older. Which yeah for someone who has unresolved trauma about being abandoned and not wanted by people who love her, um yeah, no. I think she joined the guards as a way to prove herself and try to help others, which was her original goal in Season 4. She literally says that she couldn't stand to see her country be abandoned like she was. I'm not saying Su is entirely to blame for Kuvira's problems bc obviously, she's not but I still think their relationship should have been talked about more. I think the basis for starting to talk about their relationship was there but it could have been explored more.

I don't understand why Bataar Jr. wasn't also put in prison, like I know he got house arrest but he did all of the same stuff Kuvira did
Spoiler up until she attacked Republic City with the Spirit Ray
. Hmmmmm like we're putting Kuvira in that sad prison but Bataar Jr gets house arrest, make it make sense luv.

Opal is still a badass per the usual in this book, she literally called Kuvira a stray dog at the age of 8 lmao

I really liked the flashbacks to Kuvira's past and the Korrasami we did get was really good. Probably going to read this comic over and over, just like I rewatch seasons 3&4 of TLOK over and over cause they're all masterpieces.

If you can't tell from this review I really fucking love Kuvira which is funny bc my other top favorite TLOK character is Korra. Cause they're basically two sides of the same coin(don't even get me fucking started on that scene of them in the spirit world I could go on about that shit for hours!!!)
