Fantastic end to Era 2 of Mistborn, and lots of connections to other worlds that I've read but forgotten about. I'm excited to see how everything comes together, there were a lot of really interesting threads left for us to chew on even though the main story arc and characters had a satisfying conclusion.

Oof. This is an awkward review to write.

So...after seeing EVERYONE gushing over how much they loved this book, I was super excited to read it. After all, I was one of the rare ones who actually enjoyed Era 2 Mistborn more than Era 1. SURELY, if even people who found Era 2 underwhelming loved this, then I would love it even more, right?

...look at my rating. 3 stars. Obviously, this was not the case.

The worst part? I can't even tell you why. Something about this book just didn't click for me.

I wasn't invested (pun intended) in anything. Things were happening that should have had me engaged, and yet I felt bored. By the end, picking up the book to keep going felt more like a chore than a good time.

Was it my mood? Was it something the book did? Was it me? I honestly don't know.

Wax, who was a character I normally loved reading about, felt bland and "meh" to me. I could see the arc that he was apparently having, but so little depth was happening around it aside from him musing over how much he's grown.

Marasi was a non-character to me. I found her kind of bland and uninteresting in the previous books, but she felt like a piece of white bread in this one. I just didn't care about her. (She also had a line of inner monologue that made me roll my eyes so hard I thought they'd get stuck, so there's that. Sanderson's had a habit of putting lines that are honestly super cheesy in his books lately, and I really hope he stops.)

Wayne was...Wayne. He was still entertaining, and I really liked his prologue and aspects of his arc, but his humour often felt more grating than funny, and even he ended up feeling just "meh" by the end for me.

The book started strong for me, but faded as it went. There were cool scenes, but I had no sense of emotion. The big things that were meant to hit just didn't hit for me, and by the end all I felt was relief that it was over. (And a brief moment of happiness as I got the most interesting five pages of the book in one of the sections of the epilogue. It was nice to see from the POV of a certain character again.)

Anyway...yeah. Underwhelming, and I can't even say it was anything the book did.

Meh.
