A fascinating, true story. I was wow-ed by the fact that it happened, rather than the writing itself. It's not my favourite Macintyre work on espionage for the fact that it was less focused on the story, more so on the facts. Nonetheless I enjoy his detail, meticulous research and by halfway through I was fully engrossed.

Oh my gosh this was WILD. I am still stunned that this was a real story. Gosh, I can't imagine this man's life and his escape and HOW IS THIS NOT A MOVIE.
not me also just floored the soviets believed a blood bank was a capitalist structure where you paid money for blood.

So good. I second the review that says don't start the final 3rd unless you have uninterrupted time. My palms were SWEATY

Oh my good Lord that was a good book. Like a Le Carrè but non-fiction. 5 stars all the way and now I have to read Ben MacIntyre's entire back catalogue.

This was so interesting I found myself seeking extra audiobook occasions to just be able to continue the story. I was completely intrigued by this spy and all the people around him and how everybody worked together to protect him and use all this intelligence that was so impactful for the course of history. Thanks to great writing this all came together beautifully.
