I always say, "I don't read romance." ... And then I continue to read romance.... and then I continue to like it.

I picked up The Deal because it was free on Kindle Unlimited, and I kept seeing it everywhere. Going into this, I thought it was just going to be a silly, goofy romance that was written similiarily to a WattPad RPF of an NHL team. I was pleasantly surprised that this book ended up being so much more.

Yes, it does fall into the cliches romances tend to. Yes, it's a little cringey, but it is heartfelt and enjoyable. The dynamics between Garrett and Hannah are enjoyable. I enjoy seeing how they both grow together in both their friendship and their inevitable relationship. Their banter was refreshing and fun. I would recommend this for someone who is looking for a sports (hockey) romance with some sex scenes.

I have new obsession with hockey romance! How have I only recently discovered the joy of hockey romance?! I love hockey, I love romance, & ofcourse I love books, so why have I only recently started reading hockey romance books?
I loved this book!!! It brought together the joys and confusion of finding love, the fun of hockey, with the trauma of the past, & the healing journey  to move on. The author wonderfully mixed all these aspects together, in such an incredible way!
And Hannah & Garret have such an amazing story; both healing from their own separate traumas, but coming together to support eachother in their journeys! They are #relationshipgoals 💜💜💜

Elle Kennedy has the ability to write about incredibly harrowing topics in such an empathetic and real way. How she can weave topics such as sexual assault and domestic violence into a gorgeous love story is truly admirable. The Deal is hard-hitting and definitely do not expect a happy-go-lucky romance, but it is beautiful and I would highly recommend this book.

Look, this is not getting anything remotely resembling a "full" review. I was in a weird emotional place, which always translates over to my reading (*big* mood reader here), and when that happens, I turn to steamy, problematic (I could list the issues, but really, you know they're there going in; I'm not defending it, at all, but just...read something else if that's not what you want) romances. It happens. Pretty periodically. (I'm an emotional person.) They're quick and easy reads, page-turners, and I love the drama, the sex, the questionable "big dude/protectiveness" and "I won't give up til I win you over you" vibes, and knowing there's going to be an HEA. It always hits the spot and helps get me through the moods. Thanks for your service this time, Elle Kennedy. #sorrynotsorry
