If one (I speak and write like a gentleman) cares not to suspend his (are women real at all?) disbelief in the horrors of colonialism, racism, disease, sexism, and all other modern impediments to the enjoyment of a ripping yarn, then one must read She, or Her, or Them. Whatever. For me, it is too late, too much nastiness has been perpetrated on behalf of the British Empire, and too many men of all genders still think tales like this are harmless. You can’t get away with this shit anymore.

A bit archaic, but OK. The film isn't half bad, actually.

This is a fabulous example of the 'adventure story - gripping yarn' novel. It still manages to keep you on the edge of your seat even though the style is perhaps a little dated for today's tastes.
Pretty interesting throwback to the time of exploring the once unknown parts of the world, finding majesty and wonder while also learning more about our place in the world and what it means to be human. Great read.
