Some stories were 5/5 and had me hunting for other works from the authors and some were absolute flops. Used this book as long distance storytime with my partner, each story takes about an hour of gentle reading so was perfect.

I enjoyed the book and while the foreword did say these would not be lighthearted tales, I think I was still caught off-guard. I enjoyed the retellings, the new life sprung into these stories, and am impressed by the feminist-horror takes of many of the tales. I probably should not have read this book when already feeling down as it was not the most uplifting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.

Some really fabulous storytelling in this collection. My favourites were written by Naomi Booth, Kirsty Logan and Emma Glass but every tale deserves its place here.
