I wanted to love this book so much, and I think the story had a lot of potential - the execution just wasn’t great. It could’ve benefitted from a little more editing and a lot more sexual tension. I don’t mind a closed door romance at all, but this was done in a way that felt juvenile rather than satisfying.
I did enjoy the story and loved the concept of two chefs finding both themselves and each other. There was just quite a bit of the story that left me wanting more.

Reading this you will feel like you too are a chef living in Paris and drinking in all that life has to offer.
Claire was relatable in that she is just trying to figure out her life. And James being a secret cinnamon roll was just too precious. I wanted to walk along in the market with them each day.
This was a SLOW burn with a delectable payoff and overall a delicious treat of a book.
Content note: This book is closed door but does contain language and innuendo
Thanks to Waitlyn Andrews and Netgalley for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

For being Andrews first novel, she does a good work setting the story up, building characters and making the chemistry feel between them, my only problem came with how she introduced the characters, i wasn't that excited by it, So it took me a little to warm up to them. I liked it.

I received an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
❝I love you, you weirdo.❞
❝I love you too, Chef.❞
If the author's husband is anything like James Sullivan then she needs to share.
I'm not a big fan of these romance books with cartoony covers and cliche scenes but this was so good. And it was well-written.
There are so many categories of fictional men. There's the sweet guy, the cute guy, the nerdy guy, the bad boy, the hotheaded guy who hates everyone but her, and many others. But what tops them all is the respectful guy.
❝...if you need time, then you need time. Just know that I don't need time, but I'm willing to wait.❞
This man is unreal. (Yes author, I know he's your husband, but still.) The entire time I read this book, all I could think of was "me and who?" And I now believe that such romances do exist and now I'm going to go cry because I'm not Claire.
Thank you NetGalley, and thank you Waitlyn Andrews, for this book and the opportunity to be able to write this review.

Claire Richards has traveled from California to Paris for the hopes of earning a Michelin Star. The hope of a Michelin Star isn’t the only reason Claire has made Paris her home. She’s trying to rebuild her life after a fateful night.
She’s enjoying working under Chef Elliot when she meets the new Head Chef James Sullivan. James Sullivan is a fellow American and essentially culinary royalty. Together they work towards the Michelin Star.
E absolutely adored this book. She actually got it as an ARC but didn’t manage to get to it before it’s release date.
If you’re a fan of comfort reads, food network, romance novels, found family and slow burn romances I think you’ll enjoy this book!

I thoroughly enjoyed the author's voice and found the protagonist, Claire, to be quite entertaining. Her awkwardness and good humor, combined with her family background, created an intriguing character whom I enjoyed following. The narrative in the first person worked perfectly.
However, while I understand that the author's intention was to revive the 90s rom-com vibe – and I was excited about delving into a lighthearted novel – something about the romantic relationship felt off to me. The behaviors described as protective came across as excessive jealousy and attempts to control Claire's life. Starting from the chapter set in the nightclub, I couldn't shake off the feeling that she was becoming entangled in an unhealthy relationship.
Even before they begin dating, James gives her the cold treatment whenever he suspects she's seeing someone else. This aspect is what made me lose my enthusiasm for a conventional happy ending – or to put it differently, for me, the ideal resolution would be her realizing how problematic he truly was.
Apart from this aspect, I also relished the atmosphere of the restaurant's kitchen and the depiction of Paris. I would certainly be interested in reading Waitlyn Andrews' next book.
