I feel like I need to start selecting my books better because I have been striking out a lot lately...but I loved the previous one and thought I'd like this one too. ALAS.
While the first book was slow, it had enough going on to keep your interest. This book, however, is sloooooow. The most excruciating slow burn from the prior book turns into a cliche here. Jonas makes a comeback and WHY IS HE HERE?
Saga was the only POV I truly cared about but it isn't enough to carry the rest.
Sigh.

Predictable and a little tropey. Disappointing I really enjoyed the first book. I think that one was more of a quest story this one is more political intrigue and court drama.

A wonderful second book, very different from the first and that's for the best as it brings a fresh look at this world and its wonderful characters. The darkness of every character is explored and it makes for such delightful complexe interactions and growth.
A very enjoyable read, I'll be sure to look out for book 3 and the novella that should come out in Fall 2024.
