My kind of mafia! I devoured it.
I absolutely loved this book and all the characters involved. It’s based more on the relationships and family dynamic rather than the dynamic and inner workings of a Mafia.
Katalina and Rome are everything. They are intense, dark and explosive.
I love how they find peace in each other, especially after everything they have gone through in their lives. They definitely deserve a happy ending.
It’s also good to see Katalina become strong and taking charge. Being the boss bitch that she is.
I also freaking loved that we could see Rome struggle to determine where his loyalties lay, with her or the family.
I can’t wait to read book two to see how it all ends.
4.5 Stars
It’s this rating because with did notice some words were missing which sorta took away my enjoyment.

This is an A 18+, and has some sexual abuse, and human trafficking content. Please do you research before reading.
Heart of a Monster by Shain Rose is a mafia romance and is Book one of 2 in the New Reign Mafia Duet. The book follows Katalina and her and her family's ties to the mafia. She is a badass heroine and starts to act on her feelings with their enforcer, Rome. This book had soo much potential! I love the plot/storyline, but the execution fell short.
Here is what I didn't like. First, there was a lot of repetitiveness of "I put the family first." Yes, we get it... it was said in almost every dialogue throughout the book between Rome and whoever else he was talking to.
Second, Bastian's character. He is the new mob boss and he is a pussy. He wants to change things around and not be feared but respected. Mob bosses are NOT the type of people to give the benefit of the doubt. Mob bosses, take what's their (or not), and if you have a problem with it then so be it. This seem soo far stretched, it was almost comical.
Third, the spice level is low, because every spicy scene, reminded me of a quicky. There was no description of how the person was feeling, except that it was "oh so good." There was no depiction of what the character was seeing and how it made them feel. There was NO FOREPLAY.
Here is what I liked. Other than the storyline, the best scene of the entire book, was the balcony scene at the Gala. It was detailed and well-thought out. There was passion, tension, spice, emotion. It had everything that the rest of the book was lacking.
Overall, I really really wanted to like it. I do love (most) of the characters and the attempted plot, but it was hard to finish with the above mentioned issues for me.
