This book turned me vegan
I have many vegans among my friends and family, but I was still on the fence of really becoming one myself. I have mostly eaten vegan meals, some vegetarian, and rarely meat (or animal flesh, as winters puts it) in the past few years. And yet I wasn't fully going vegan.
But this book presented so much important information on the animal farming industry and the impact it has. Winters is very persuading with mostly just letting the facts speak for themself.
One of the best nonfiction books I've ever read, and one with a major impact on my life and how I see the world.
5/5 Would recommend to everyone.

This book is a must read for everyone. The time has come to question our perceptions about our relationship with the rest of the living word. Super informative, approaches the issue from different angles and an easy read - except one chapter where he talks about what we do to animals. Unpleasant feelings might arise, but looking away from the pain we had contributed to for so long was no longer an option for me.

I think it mostly is about what I already knew. I do think it's a book that gives a good overview, though.

If you want to make informed decisions about what you put in your body;
If veganism seems extreme to you;
If you have vegan family members or friends;
If you want to protect our planet, the animals and people living on it, and yourself:
please read this book.

Everybody should read this, whether you've been vegan for a while like myself or have just recently started being interested in veganism. Even if you're not interested in being vegan and think veganism is extreme, this book will 100% give you something to think about.

The first third of this book was difficult to get through. The things humans put animals through are truly, truly abhorrent. I often found myself having to stop reading and take a break because what Ed was describing was too much for me to bear. The problem is, we have to confront ourselves with the reality of the abuse that animals are being subjected to by humans in order to realize that what we are doing is so completely wrong, immoral, and unjustifiable. People don't like to be confronted with that, understandably so, but it is necessary. For the animals, for the planet, for us and our future.

Anyway, I don't want to get too much into it. Being a vegan is a huge part of my life and I could talk about it for hours but Ed's book does a much better job of explaining everything you need to know.

Just please don't give up on the book during the hard parts and take it one chapter at a time.

It got to the point where it was so heavy on statistics that it lost its emotional impact. I don‘t regret picking this up as I definitely learnt a lot, but I‘ve got what I came for from this book and have no urge to read any more. It was alright, but definitely could have done with an edit as it feels really rambley for some of the book.
