We had to read this for work (I was supposed to have finished it during the 22/23 school year but I finished it during the 23 calendar year so it's fine). It was fine. Like all education based books/in services/classes a lot of it was very elementary focused and would not remotely work for high school. However, it did provide some excellent ideas on changing your mind frame and possible ways to change or update your teaching practices to better serve underprivileged and/or minority students.

PD book. I'll give it an honest effort when I have more time.

It starts off strong with connections between brain research and student action and reaction, but the book fails for me at the end, with rote recommended practices from experts such as Marzano that are the same practices teachers have been told to utilize for fifty years with culturally and linguistically homogenous students as well. The cultural notes and assumptions also sometimes feel dated, even for a book published in 2015.

Essential reading for all educators. The science of how the brain learns is fascinating. I will definitely need to review my notes from the book and reread the book again in the future so that I can consciously use these teachings to adjust how I interact with a students and how I plan activities. As I work in kindergarten and early years learning, I found it interesting that a lot of the elements from the book are already foundational to ECE training.

This is a superior text. I appreciate the breakdown of HOW to teach based on student brain activities. When you understand where a kid is coming from physically, mentally then you can better approach teaching a kid.

This book is definitely good, and I would recommend it. I just felt it was repeating things I've already learned, and I wasn't going to get more out of it. I'll definitely keep it to refer back to though.
