I continue to adore the Drum Island setting. This volume introduces us to Chopper, a character I've heard about through friends who know the series well. I loved him instantly, and the more I learn about him, the more I find to like. His backstory is a wild ride, and I appreciate how much time is given to fleshing out the characters' pasts.
Another thing I like about this volume is the humor. Every volume of "One Piece" has funny moments scattered throughout, and this volume has its fair share of sadness, too. But especially in the first half of this volume, the jokes were on another level. My personal favorite moment was Sanji chucking Nami off of his makeshift snowboard and saying, "A lady requires a gentle touch," before instantly crashing into a rock. Sanji may be my least favorite main character at the moment, but his Looney Tunes-style antics continue to amuse me.
