An interesting new twist to the life and expectations of J’onn, definitely not what I’d initially view as an outcome for him!

This volume (and story) is really honing in on how J’onn feels so different to humans but has grown to love them (us? idk) over time. We are messy and complicated, but worthy of protection. Our lives hold value he does not want to betray, but he has a different purpose to what he personally desires. Interesting concepts to tackle!
The designs in this are really spectacular. So fun to look at! Mr. Biscuits is my favorite, I think, but I have a soft spot for tall, lanky, comedic characters. There’s also a lot of graphic scenes involving body horror and blood so definitely take that into consideration! Shit gets weird, especially when aliens are involved.
I’ll look into volume two, but unless I get super invested from then on, this may be a series I drop! For the big J’onn fans, you’d probably like it even more than I did.

One word review-huh?
A bit more; They totally missed the mark on what makes MM an interesting character with an insane story idea that sort of blends a lot of the popular stuff about him. Total and abject failure in the first volume.

Takes full advantage of J'onn's psychic abilities to tell a story that is all about him but also not. This was a fresh perspective on J'onn that I hope continues into other interpretations down the line.
Also, snickerdoodles are the best.

I love the big, sweeping splash pages. This artist has a good vision. (Not in the 20/20 sense. In the ‰ЫПbig picture‰Ыќ sense. Well, he could have 20/20 vision; I don‰ЫЄt know. That‰ЫЄs just not what I meant.)
And the new (new?) Wonder Woman costume is amazing!

Huh. His ghostly image reminds me of Dr. Manhattan. Was that on purpose?
I may need to take this as my motto:

Saved by some great single panels, and Mister Biscuits, but an overly convoluted plot and poor conclusion leave this sitting firmly in the "fair" category.

Martian Manhunter, one of DC comics underrated classic characters whose been around since the Golden Age yet he's been through various successes to fit him into the universe seamless (being a detective like Batman and super alien like Superman can do that to you.) But Rob Williams and Eddy Barrows have created a strange wonderful science fiction tell filled of twists and turns that would make the X-Files and Lost envious. Just read it.

This was....an interesting read. Mostly I wasn't particularly impressed. Largely because the core plot was that, surprise, a hero who we've known for years was actually supposed to be a turncoat for his species to rejuvenate them at the expense of Earth.
Granted, I'm mostly tired of that plot because I read....I think the entirety of Invincible over the last year or so. And that was basically the core of a lot of that series.
Still, there were some interesting moments, some funny moments (basically anytime Mr. Biscuits is in a scene) and it's worth checking out.
