I absolutely loved this book, definitely more than the first one and that is saying something considering I already liked the first one quite a bit, but this one definitely takes the cake.

One of the things I liked right away was how it starts exactly where the last one left off and I love sequels that make you feel like you just flipped a page from the previous one and you’re able to continue with the story. I absolutely love this world that Scott has created for The Four Arts series, the way magic works (I love when the characters have to work for their magical abilities) and just the world in itself (on this one we even have some minor steampunk aspects to it and steampunk is something I’m always all for).

Sophie and Cameron are just as great, they are our two MCs in this book series and while I love seeing them working separately, having their own character growths, I love even more seeing them working together, on TSC we see them learning to work together, but here we see them working as a proper unit and I also find myself looking forward to those stolen moments in which they are not two refugees, but just Sophie and Cam.

Speaking of being refugees, on this book we meet more about Illvya, a place that is supposedly filled with evil people and demons, but we discover that things are not exactly as they seem. The plot kept me on the edge, I always thought I had something figured out, but apparently, I didn’t and honestly that is one of the best feelings in a book! There is also a magical school so honestly, can’t get better than this.

I can’t wait for The Unbound Queen to see what adventures await for Sophie and Cam next.

Kept the story going from the previous book, though it felt like a middle section. Looking forward to the next book to see how the story develops further.

I want to like this series more but there is something about the characters and plot that makes it difficult to get lost in. The writing is fine. There’s nothing blatantly wrong with the plot. I just find myself really disconnected from Sophie and Cameron’s problems and wish there was a hook or a catch that would make them unforgettable.
