I often wonder if having multiple points of view is actually limiting because it tricks us into thinking we don't actually need to put as much effort into what the characters are thinking or feeling. Despite each character technically having their own lives it still felt like I never really understood them or their motivations. Plus, once you started getting to the end of the book it really did start to seem like the message was 'get out of high school and then you can start to live'. Like I understand that high school sucks by and large but man. Going by this book I'd say there's zero hope for anyone of any social standing.

Not sure if I didn't like the book, or just hate high school/YA lit. Either way, it's set over the course of 4 years, following 5 different kids, so it stretches itself too thinly, in my opinion - not enough character development.

This is a fast, fun read. Even though it's over 450 pages, I was able to read it in an afternoon (short chapters; characters I liked) and I wish it had been longer. (Sequel with them in college, maybe?)

I think the comparison to The Breakfast Club is pretty apt; these characters really have nothing in common (although, like in The Breakfast Club, some are more popular than others but you still wouldn't expect to see them spending time together).

I think it's so easy to relate to everyone's struggle to define who they want to be, and to try and figure out how to get there from where they currently are.

Recommended.

I liked this concept quite a bit and I think it could be reassuring for teens going into high school (although they'd have to be ok with some older high school actions-this book follows 5 teens all the way through high school). I wish we could have had more than just glimpses into each of their lives, but I get it's a lot of characters and time to compress. Thanks for being a reliable author always, Carolyn Mackler.

I wasn't sure how I felt about this book while reading it. I'm not sure what I expected but it wasn't this. I liked it enough to keep reading though. After finishing I found I did enjoy the book and found the concept interesting.
