The Solace: This one was action packed and wild. We get a visit from our friendly neighborhood Ellemist and he comes bearing a challenge that takes our group to another planet to save a symbiotic species from a murderous species. On top of all that action, we get more morality conflicts to think through and finally the start of a romance we've been waiting for!

The Dread: We got a couple new species in this book, and we learned a good deal about some of them, but not all. I have a feeling we'll be seeing most later on in the series, but it leaves me wanting more now. We're also still doing repetitive recaps of the series in the first chapter.

Overall, this was a fantastic read. Jack books are arguably and consistently the best in the series, and this one was no different.

It drives me crazy how the Ellimist talks like would it kill you to give a straightforward response for once

Damn this book was so much more affecting than I expected it to be. The backstories of the Howlers and the Iskhort were both so affecting and really makes you think of them so differently. I loved how the Iskhorts were so creepy and the Animorphs didn’t want to help them but did anyway.

I also love how Jake and Cassie have their first kiss in this book. It was really sweet and a much needed moment after such a dark period for Jake in this book. This is truly Animorphs at its best.

This is the first ghostwritten book and I can clearly see the improvement, not only the story is way better than last (where Applegate had lost their touch) but also gives alternatives for the Yeerks and Crayax unfolds as the macrocosmic counterpart.
