The Fault in Our Stars

John Green

There are several nitpicks I could list about this book -- the improbable dialogue (yes, it's intentional, but doesn't detract from the pomposity), the endless mentions of Augustus Waters' beauty that would be reminiscent of Edward Cullen if other aspects of his character weren't developed as beautifully -- well, even my nitpicks are tempered by praise because after turning the last page I have nothing but a holistic, transcendentally positive feeling about this book. The word devastating comes to mind. Also raw. But these are words that don't really convey the depth of Hazel and Augustus's brief but infinite romance. Call me a convert to the John Green cult, I'm in awe of him.

I went into this thinking that it was probably overrated. I mean, you HAVE to like a popular book about a teenager dying of cancer or else you're a terrible person, right? Well, I was wrong. It was not overrated...I'll round up from 4.5 stars. And I sobbed through the last 60 pages.

I wish there had been more young adult books like this when I was actually a young adult...I just skipped right up to adult literature.

Im sad because I spent 3 days reading this.

.

Upon a reread, a 3.5 or a 3.75, almost a 4, but not quite there.
DFTBA.

4.5 stars

The second John Green book that I've read, and I'm still so completely in love with his writing style! The characters are great, I love the relationship between the two main characters, and their friendship with Isaac. The last time I cried this hard over a book was Clockwork Princess.

But to be honest, I was a little unsatisfied with the ending. I want to know what happens to Hazel? Will she and Isaac remain friends? How much longer will she live, and will her parents stay together after they die? What about Van Houton, what'll happen to him? I could go on, I have many ore questions

Even though I have a lot of questions, it was still a wonderful book and I'll definitely read it again!

I just remember that this book made me ugly cry for hours when I was 13 so

One of my first English books that I read. Now I’ve reread it almost 4 times. But in the meantime I also saw the movie. The book is better without seeing the movie.
