I asked a great friend who reads a lot of fantasy romance to recommend a book to me (who reads a lot of fantasy but not fantasy romance) a book that is a page turner, easy to read, is heavy on the fantasy and less on the romance (only if well done, I typically like mine to have yearning and a slow and strong build) and a FMC who had other motivations besides whatever involved the MMC…And she delivered!!!
This book was a perfect plane and beach read for vacation. Did I feel like I was reading a literary masterpiece? No, but I do not care as I was highly entertained the entire time and so intrigued by the politics and war brewing between the magical beings and the oppressed rebel mortals. I respect Cole utilizing the page to expand on how each side feels justified in their violence and actions (resistance to send a message vs. not hurting innocent bystanders in the process). The dynamics of the Descended needing mortal healers though magic exists was also a cool aspect to explore. Was the romance element a super slow burn?! VERY, but it was fabulous for me. Based on how the first book in the series set the tone, I’m very eager to start Glow soon!

I went into this book with no expectations or ideas of what I was about to read, I just knew that so many people were recommending it. This what not at all what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised.
This is a definitely a slow burn that left me wanting more. I really love the banter and push/pull between Diem and Luther, so we'll see what comes of that (although I'm pretty sure we all know where this is going). I really enjoyed that I wasn’t able to entirely predict what was going to happen, and I'm a sucker for a feisty FMC.
All in all, an enjoyable read! But now I have so many questions that I need answers to. Like, right now. Book 2 is calling…

Picked this up on a whim at a local romance bookstore because the special edition looked pretty…it didn’t disappoint. Henri is deeply annoying though—someone human sacrifice him and put me out of my misery.

A good first book of a series. A little slow perhaps as it sets up a much larger story, but still entertaining to read. I really like the characters so far and look forward to continue reading!

Went in expecting to be wowed and that I’d be devouring this book but it was your average booktok recommendation. Disappointing. Don’t believe them when they say this book has slow burn and enemies to lovers. Maybe it will be more drawn out into the next books though. Also, it’s hard for me to like a mmc with the name Luther. 😅
