Age at time of reading: 37

This is by far one of the best books I've read in a long time and it deserves so much more recognition!

I can't confidently categorize this into a single genre. It's a gritty, horror, thriller, whimsical type who dunnit, with a magical element (even though "magic isn't real") that is miles apart from the fae/witches/dragons that tends to dominate the fantasy market.

I would try and summarize it but honestly there's no way I would give it justice. Just read it!

The only negative I have is, where is a follow up? This book was published in 2015 and I need more from this author! I totally respect that he doesn't want to release something that doesn't meet his expectations, so I will just sit here patiently waiting and re-reading The Library at Mount Char.

This was a good read in a Stephen King kinda way. Enjoyed the plot, like the characters Steve and Carolyn, but a bit much on the bloood and gore and killing and the enjoyment of torture.
