i read this because i was absolutely in love with the movie as a child. after reading the book, i realized that there was a lot more happening that i wasn't picking up on. i think now that i have a better understanding of the time period, it's easier for me to forgive the faults of the characters because it was really just the way things were done then.

This one is difficult to rate. I didn't enjoy it that much while reading but we discussed it in a seminar for two weeks and it definitely grew on me and I do appreciate it.

I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more with a different narrator - it sounded like some kind of home recording, very weird.

“I connect you with a view — a certain type of view”

Getting into this book with no expectations, I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed it and how it was so uniquely written. A romance written for the fragile but docile heart of an Edwardian girl, during an era when liberal view were slowly making surface with still the oppositions of a more strict society.

“Forster is writing romance in which the conflicting forces of our inner life are given external representation.”
