I enjoyed this collection of two very short stories. I will be looking for more of his books. 3 1/2 stars!

There are two short stories in this collection.

The first story I didn't really get. It seemed pointless. The writing was fine, but there seemed to be no plot and then it was over.

I really liked the second story, so much so that I wish there was more. It felt like a first chapter of a longer novel and it ended so abruptly that the story as a whole didn't feel satisfying, it felt unfinished.

Overall, I do like the writing style and I have two novels by the same author that I look forward to reading.

I received this e-book for free, and read it to get a sense of whether I'd want to purchase any of Adam's full texts in the future. I can safely say that, yes, I will be purchasing some of his longer works soon. While these two short stories were not the most exciting things I've ever read, the writing style was lovely and the excerpt from The Con Season is was a great hook.

"The Blackest Eyes": 3 stars. Not what I was expecting. I did like the end, and I really enjoyed the style, but I'm not sure Gloria's actions made sense to me.

"Me, Debased": 3 stars. Having not read (or even looked up yet) The First One You Expect, I didn't really know what to expect- and it was (maybe?) better that way. The story itself was good, a bit predictable, but interesting enough to not be entirely satisfied by the ending.

I've never read anything by Adam Cesare and decided to start with this (free when subscribing on author's web site). These stories were very short and I didn't care for them all that much. However, I can tell that the author likes to inject some humour into the horror which is appealing. I'd be willing to check ou his novels to get a better feel for his writing. There are many favorable reviews for his books so it's worth a try.
