Story lacks the emotional depth Miller was trying to convey. I don't like the art at all and the dialogue is confusing to read. This didn't even feel like a story.

In "Love and War" Miller delivers a Daredevil story rife with the feeling of an old film noir or a faded detective novel. The art is beautiful and the story, though a bit confusing at first, stands on its own well and is more or less resolved by the end of the book. Though it is Miller's art, not writing, that really stands out here. Every page is beautifully illustrated in watercolor and pen, utilizing simple artistic tools like light, shadow, pattern, and shape to deliver breathtaking and horrifying panels.

Narratively, I was disappointed to see Murdock himself fall into the background of this book. The story seems to center more on Kingpin's crime ring than the vigilante trying to break it up. There are some nice Daredevil moments, but they don't come into play until a good 2/3 of the way into the book. Still, for an early Marvel graphic novel, this is fantastic.

While I absolutely loved the artwork in this graphic novel, I did struggle with the written content. I found it difficult to distinguish between narrative voices and the characters. This confusion meant that I was re-reading large chunks over and over for clarity.

my god... as interesting and clever as the story was (and it was!) this definitely would not be as impactful without the masterful art in it; it should be CRIMINAL how beautifully enrapturing and full of passion and intent Bill Sienkiewicz's art is: fuck me, I want to breathe that artstyle (ew, I know)

honestly this was a solid 4.5/5 for me, it had its flaws as any Miller DD storyline is wont to, but I quite enjoyed myself and I hope that, if you ever consider reading this, you do to! x
