Read in French

This was excellent. I didn't know the story of Fernand Iveton but I was happy to learn. A French man who joined the Algerian Communist Party and got executed as an example. A great piece of work about a war that is still a touchy point in contemporary French society, and at the center of their contemporary social tensions.

And aside all that, the prose is inventive and simply beautiful, many sentences that you want to savor. The kind of book you feel conflicted about leaving, moving on from, once you're done.
