I thought this was a great story up until the last few chapters. Granted the last two were great chapters, but there is the part leading up to the very end, in essence one of the very last very climatic parts of the story that I thought was a bit out of character for the main character.
Aside from that, truly a great story! I love the adventure in it, the ties to nature, the hare, and the shenanigans that our heroes embark on.

Short book about the ordinary but interesting adventures of some guy and his hare. Charming, nice to read, but not particularly memorable.

Messy, wacky, and silly, this book is, nonetheless, a fantastical treatise about personal freedom. Here are some bits I especially enjoyed:
"As he performed his heavy labor, with no concern for time, he grew tougher and thought less and less about the flabby life he'd left...Anyone could live this life, he reflected, provided they had the sense to give up the other way of life."
"There was a half moon, and the stars were glimmering faintly in the frozen evening. He had his own world, this one, and it was fine to be here, living alone, in his own way. The hate ambled silently along the trail ahead of the skier, like a pathfinder."
And there are adventures.

Pretty cool. The relationship with the hare was really cute. Some passages felt like the author is going a little too fast, but the story is nice and you get to appreciate Finnish humour.
