Dark and quiet (in a way) and certainly different...was a bit hesitant at the start but got reaaaally sucked in. the lack of chapters probably contributed to that. was it wrong of me to try and do the exercises along with sasha? existing as a word seems definitely appealing to me personally. Not the biggest fan of the choosen one/ this normal girl is suddenly and effortlessly the best student ever trope but they made sasha work for it and I enjoyed the deconstruction of it when even her teachers didn't know what to do with her/how to safely teach her. Hope this will continue in book 2.

5 stars.

Vita Nostra might be the best book I’ll read this year.  I’ve never read anything like this before.  Sasha Samokhina’s character development was extremely satisfying and well done.

Elements of this story were reminiscent of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis.  Creepy and unnerving but with a believability that it could actually happen.

I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time.

scythe_2006's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 10%

I wanted to love this but the writing style wasn't for me and I think its just too mundane.
