I really enjoyed this! Loved the dragon bonding aspect, the political intrigue, and the male-female friendship between Jai and one of the other main characters.

It was well written and a good story to read, tense and entertaining, though there were some plot twists that were very expected. 

Jai's thoughts felt a little self-centered sometimes. The bond with Winter was adorable though!

Why aren’t more people reading this?!?  I will say I had tempered expectations going in since I haven’t seen very much about this book/series, but I absolutely loved this!  Firstly, the audiobook narrator is phenomenal. Highly recommend listening to the audiobook. Secondly, the setting, the magic, the characters, and the animal companions are so well fleshed out. This book plays out like a movie in your head while reading. I was fully immersed in the story from chapter one. Coming off a months long fantasy slump, this book single-handedly cured me. This is the kind of fantasy I want. It’s smart, it’s engaging, and it leaves you wanting more. I will immediately be jumping into book two, and not so patiently waiting for the other books in the series to be announced/published!
