Genuinely this book is so boring. Nothing particularly interesting or important happens until about 25% and by that point you still don’t have a particularly good grip on Jai the worlds most boring MC or any thing else about a world that feels very copy and paste. The dragons are effectively big dull cats and aren’t even remotely interesting probably because you don’t even meet Winter until 30% and then STILL nothing happens. I don’t know if it’s the writing style that over embellishes what could be really interesting points until they’re bogged down with unnecessary detail or it’s just that boring. Maybe I’ll come back to it at some point but I can smell the plot twists coming a mile off and they’re nothing original or intriguing enough to keep my interest. This book has been like pulling teeth. Good riddance.

It had a promising start, but from around the time his dragon hatched onward, it got so incredibly boring. Also, some bits are so excruciatingly obvious but we're still dancing around them towards the end of the book.
I was trying to finish it, but I just can't do it. It is just not enjoyable.

I'm almost certain this book was made by an LLM. After finding it on a Goodreads list of books which used AI art for their covers and really considering the grammar within, I doubt a human did any more than revise AI-generated text. Em dashes used - COPIOUSLY and WANTONLY - where periods would work better; sentences without subjects tacked on as descriptors when a comma would have joined the two ideas; somewhat hazy descriptions of a character's motivations; uninspired words for the illusion of a fantastical world. Just so disappointed.

This book was such a great fantasy read, with dragons, magic, politics and sacrifice.
In Dragon Rider, we follow the sad story of Jai who is your unlucky underdog, son of a king who lost the war and now taken as a servant to the kingdom that prevailed. After many many years of doing as he’s told and keeping his head down, he finally has a chance to escape.
The timeline was one of my favorite parts of this book, it was very realistic and didn’t feel rushed at all. The pacing matched the character development without it becoming unbelievable.
The only thing I didn’t like about the book is the fact that the female protagonist was made out to be a very strong woman who could fend for herself and take care of those who are in need of her protection. But as I read the story, I realized it was more of a “just believe me I’m strong but I won’t show you” kind of situation. Turning into this damsel in distress rather than the warrior she seemed to be.
Dragon rider is a fun ride with lots of ups and downs, if you like to root for the underdog and follow the system of magic in a way that you haven’t seen before; Dragon Rider is for you! I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be continuing this series!

This book was gruesome. It was brutal for brutality's sake. There were many gory on page deaths of both humans and animals. All described in great detail. I didn't really care about the politics or the characters, and even dragons were not enough to make me want to finish. Would have probably rated it 1 to 2 stars if I did. Not for me.
