This is a book geared for middle school kids. It is a quick, but powerful read about a boy and girl in Sudan. The buy is one of the Lost Boys of Sudan.

Good short read

This was a very quick read, but very powerful in its simplicity.

Some of my students will be reading this as a club book for a unit on literary themes. It is beautiful.

Moving.

This was an amazing, moving, emotional story. I 100% believe it should be required reading for every student at every school in America. We take for granted that we can turn on our faucet and have endless supplies of clean and safe drinking water and rarely if ever think that there are so many people out there who don't have that luxury.

This is one of the best books I've read this year.

What a beautifully written book. I loved how there were two overlapping stories and that it's based on a true story.

I read this one with three of my boys, ages 11, 9 and 8, all three boys loved it. I also really enjoyed this middle grade book. It did have some violence that stressed my younger boys out a little bit, but it wasn’t graphic or too much for them. Based on a true story it weaves two timelines of children growing up in southern Sudan, one in 1985 during the Second Sudanese Civil War and one in 2008. This novel has strong themes of family, survival, and helping others that made it a great discussion book for my boy’s book group.
