it was short (it only took me about two hours to read it) and easy to read. it was also enlightening and I see the benefits of teaching students this story.

keep in mind that this is also targeted towards a younger audience. it isn’t a ‘literary masterpiece’ by all means, but it tells a story worth telling.

A heart-wrenching, hopeful, and inspiring story.
This book made me cry my eyes out while reading out loud to my 7-year-old brother. It kept me on my toes and my jaw dropped multiple times while reading - and it's all based on a true story. Truly incredible. I encourage everybody to read this book and learn what it was like during these times and that it teaches you to persist no matter what. Also, when these 2 characters, fictional or real, were in tough times they did not give up and they always respected everybody even if they wanted to argue. These 2 characters, especially Salva, taught me to persevere relentlessly when times get hard and to never give up on family. Also, if anyone is wondering why it talks more about Salva than Nya, it is because Salva’s portion of the book is real, but Nya’s is all fiction, it is just Linda Sue Parker’s way to show what Salva’s company does for Africa.

A beautiful and compelling story, made me cry...but in a good way.
