I wasn't a fan of the start and I didn't quite understand the double POV, but by half of the book I was hooked and it was such a great read. With a heart crushing ending, be warned.
I loved Marin and her constant anxiety, the need to be in control and sacrifice everything for others, and Lucas.. oh boy, the perfect man. To be fair I loved all the characters and how they interacted with each other, I almost felt part of the Saba community myself.
I wasn't expecting to love this as much as I did

Very slow to start. Once the plot started to unravel it became more engaging. Very emotional but beautiful.

What the sister did was supposed to be all inspiring and opening minds but she was just selfish to trick her sister and hide the cancer from her until it was too late that it ruined it for me
Almost DNF due to annoyance at the plot but it had enough interesting side characters to keep me going

This book was pretty much the definition of "fine." The FL was given a lot of exploration but the ML was so one note it was disappointing. He had next to 0 personality which I didn't understand. His only aspects were rich and mysterious which .. really aren't traits.
the fact that Sadie dies was a) not surprising but b) not the emotional impact I believe the author wanted. Also the FL was just like "welp I guess I'll move on with my life!" And that was that. Definitely a bizarre act III that felt like a hastily written hallmark movie

“Few things are certain in this world, except that nothing is.”

I thought it would be a nice, cute, summer-themed romance because of how summery the cover was but I found myself bawling my eyes out in the middle of the night while reading this. Even though it made me cry my eyes out it also gave me hope and laughter in between. This book is about love, family, second chances, taking risks and the loss of a loved one.

This made me google about Saba and transported me to a lovely island. It reminded me of one of the islands that I went to where locals knew everyone, so warm and welcoming to everyone. There is something magical when visiting an island, it changes your perspective in life and grounds you.

I found most of the characters to be likeable and relatable. That made me love this book. I just adore how badass Sadie and Laurentina are. Lucas Tsai, oh my gooodnessssss you handsomeeeeee dude!!!!! I love his humor and how much he cares about other people. I found myself relating to Marin as well, all her fears, her overthinking, never taking risks and I love the character development at the end. I just want to give Marin a hug at some point.

Marin lives a sheltered life after her mom was killed while on assignment as a journalist. She takes care of her little sister and doesn't leave Tennessee. But then her sister sends her to the Caribbean island of Saba. This book is deceptive by the cover - it's a book about grief and loss, leaning more towards women's fiction than romance. Be sure to read the content warnings! For me it was just too sad for my mood, but the writing was well done.
