I was never a 1d girl, but i had friends that were. I really enjoyed this book for what it was, a joyful exploration and walk down memory lane of one of the biggest fandoms of the 2010s. I understand people being disappointed it wasnt about fandom or the internet as a whole, but I went in wanting to learn about babygate and i did.

alright I feel bad rating this poorly (esp as a bitch with a 1D tattoo) but I was the author would have picked either a history of fandom (a la radden keefe) or a memoir about fandom. it was a little all over the place. but it did make me very nostalgic.

as a HUGE one direction fan, i loved a lot of the nostalgia this brought back for me. sweet sweet memories of the good ole days on 1d stan twitter. (a lot of the negative reviews are because they’re mad it was all about one direction. that’s not a problem for me. i could probably talk about one direction and all the lore that comes with them for days on end) BUT 2 stars because i had to read TWO WHOLE CHAPTERS about larry (this is a topic that i understand why it was addressed but…. 2 chapters???? really????) and also at the very end she said that woman is a bad song (disrespectful)

You can definitely tell a lot of research went into this book but it was a bit hard to follow at times. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was a One Direction fan, but since I like pop culture-based nonfiction I figured I’d give it a try. I wish there was a bit more about other “crazed” fan bases too.
