The shortest book I’ve read so far that took me the longest. In some passages brilliant and beautiful language with viewpoint shifts that are obviously inspired by cinema, in other places it’s a shockingly dull story.

My first time reading classic literature without being forced to in an educational setting. I’ve always wanted to read Virginia Woolf & decided to give this book a go. First off, I loved the writing style. Woolf easily depicts feelings of longing and stream of consciousness in a way that doesn’t seem a century old. However, the stream of consciousness also ended up being a con for me in the sense that there were no chapters. I like being able to finish a chapter and put the book down for a break. Mrs.Dalloway takes place over the course of a day, dipping into a number of characters lives in London and how they all connect back at the end. This gets confusing at times, having so many characters and no place to pause and reflect. I really love Woolf’s voice, she understands womanhood and boredom and longing and lust. It really surprised me to see how modern her thought process and writing style was. Towards the end of the book, I just couldn’t wait to finish it and be done with it. Not to find out what happens, but to just be done because the day & the book seemed to drag on forever.

I just love how "stream-of-consciousness" tehnique in fact means "you cannot control your prose".
I'll mark this book as read-"ish". I've been wanting to read a Virginia Woolf book and got this out of a Little Free Library, however, I just couldn't get into it. The book changed perspective from character to character and it was also hard to follow along as it jumped to different perspectives. I wouldn't completely write it off though, I'd pick it up again and try it some other time.
