I really wanted to like this, I love her music. Maybe something was lost in the translation...the word "cuz" was in every sentence. I really enjoyed the first and last chapter, but the rest was just rambling for me.

i had to read this for my comprehensive exams and it turned out to be a book i definitely would have read for fun on my own!! it took a while to get into it, just because the structure of the book (esp the writing style) is a bit disorienting at first but i really liked it towards the end!!

Global Read Challenge 91: Dominican Republic

This was a very interestingly written book. Very surreal. It is hard to explain but it is like every scenario is heightened to an illogical extreme. I've never read a book like this, so I enjoyed reading it. I was glad it was short though because I'm not sure how much more of it I would have wanted.

I was intrigued by the idea of a completely new perspective; of a story written from a childs viewpoint, but - I quickly realized I'm not a big fan of reading/hearing children telling stories. And that's the main reason for this one star review: I became SO tired of the childish rambling and never-ending fantasies, it was too much and to many pages. And I still feel like I don't really know what happened, unfortunately. Maybe something was lost in translation? Maybe something was lost in lack of concentration?

But - I do find it impressively written. That someone has managed to capture the mind of a child in, what I assume is, a very realistic presentation of how the world and all it's chaos feels and is understood. Or made understandable through available interpretations learned from family, friends and media outlets. The story flows by regardless of my understanding, and I have the feeling that the main character and me has been equally confused throughout the pages.
