Oh my gosh! This one is so much fun. Mayo kind of draws on Ever After vibes but really makes it her own with a whole fairy kingdom and new take on the backstory of cinderella and her step sisters. I loved all the characters and had a heck of a time hitting pause when I had to.
Josie Charles does a spectacular job of narrating! It was a joy to listen to.

This one originally snagged my attention by the cover. I mean look how original and gorgeous it is! We all know the story of Cinderella….or do we? What was she really like through the eyes of one of her stepsisters? I wasn’t sure how deeply I was going to enjoy this about the first 20%. But once the fairy shows up the story picks up and is seriously so much fun. The snark and banter were perfection and the storyline and character development were great. The mystery kept me guessing. My only complaint is there was a slight loose end not quite tied up with one of the characters that I really wanted a better finish with! I see there is going to be a book 2 though so perhaps the story will continue? I hope so! Overall- loved it so much and highly recommend. Especially if you’re looking for an enchanting spring read!
Other info: No spice. One shocking scene of animal death, but important to the story.

Thank you NetGalley and Orbit Books for the ARC.
I always enjoy a twisted fairy tale story, but this book was so much more than usual. It was a new take on telling the evil step sister’s story and it was amazing. The only complaint I have is I didn’t realize it was the first in a series so the sudden semi cliff hanger and the end snuck up on me because I didn’t realize I was at the end of the book. Luckily my kindle survived being thrown in my “omg no now I have to wait for book two” moment.
Without giving any spoilers you want to read this book because: snarky familiars, twisted story line, falling in love (with yourself and maybe with others ?????) and finding your place. The author did an amazing job of writing this story creating characters that you really grow to like/love as each layer of them is unwrapped. Showing all their flaws and challenges helps to make them feel real. Now go buy the book while I go pre order book two.

While overall I enjoyed this retelling of Cinderella from the point of view of one of her stepsisters, it wasn’t a standout book for me. Fun while reading (or listening in my case), but this book was one that quickly faded from my memory soon after I finished it. It was still a creative twist on the traditional story, weaving in more fae/faerie elements and giving you some new characters to root for. At times it felt a little slow, or maybe I was just expecting a bit more excitement from the summary. Good start to a series/world building - I’d probably check out a sequel to see what else is in store. If you like fairytales and fae, might be worth giving this a try. The narrator was enjoyable too. Thanks for NetGalley for the audiobook.
This book was just everything for me. May have to go back in as an immediate re-read!
