This tale is take-off of Cinderella but focused on one of Cinderella's step sisters, who we follow through magical worlds. A fun read!

This book did exactly what a reworking of a fairy tale should do: take the familiar original expand on the themes and characters, and make an entirely new, utterly more engaging and compelling story out of it. Depending on who's telling the story, who is really the evil stepsister in Cinderella? What if you wanted to get out of a marriage, instead of into one? What would it mean to actually summon a fairy godmother, and learn that happy endings aren't given without offering some sort of payment in return? Combine that with a twist on another fairy-tale - aka the three quests - by making them part of a larger mystery, a fairy godmother with an actual personality, fun jaunts into the fairy realm, a relatable and utterly human protagonist, and well-written prose, this is definitely one of my favorites of the year so far. I was certain it was a stand-alone, too, so I'm pleasantly surprised to find out there's going to be a sequel. Lady Theodosia Balfour has plenty of adventures left to have.

Knocked off a star because why was the ending like that :( might be in the minority, but I don’t agree with what happened. Love the selflessness and all that, but where is the accountability???
