This is really a 3.5 book for me, but since we don’t halves I rounded up for the whimsy!
This author managed to develop a character that I couldn’t figure out, but I mean that in a good way. Theo was flawed, as we all are, and even her bad traits made sense. She was sympathetic. The same could be said of Cecily.
The story was clearly a Cinderella re-telling, but it was so imaginative that it didn’t really feel like one. It’s not only a different perspective but an entirely different take on the original morality lesson.
I loved the fairies, the familiars, the intrigue, the twists, the little bit of darkness but it wasn’t really dark. Most of all I loved the humor, brightness, and whimsy.
There was a short period in the middle where I was confused and felt the story was getting sluggish, but given the ending maybe that was purposeful. The ending was a little soft, but it was sweet and left me feeling satisfied with the book.
All in all, I would recommend it, and would read more by Laura Mayo!

I thought the books was really fun. It took a second to get into, but once the tasks start and we enter the fairy world is really falls into place.

The message got a little heavy-handed at the end but it was still a lot of fun. A particularly novel take on the Cinderella fairy tale.
